Driven, highly successful network TV editor and journalist Cate Montana was raised in a man's world to be "just one of the guys." While on assignment a chance encounter with a shaman sets her on the path of unearthing the illusive power of the feminine. In a raw and wrenching recapitulation of her life Cate discovers the devastating absence of feminine values and qualities within herself and the withering personal and global consequences of having only one paradigm available for her to express through: the masculine "P" values of Power, Possessions, Profit, and Progress. An intelligent, compellingly honest and frequently funny memoir of a modern woman's search for her own unrecognized feminine spirit, Unearthing Venus is both a visionary and everywoman story that brilliantly captures what it is to be a woman today and every day.
Unearthing Venus is a compelling and often humorous tale of a liberated woman's awakening to the vast subtlety of feminine marginalization in Western cultureâa professional journalist's account of how a chance interview with a shaman got her out of the fast lane working in network television for ABC and CNN, sending her on an eleven-year inner journey and outer adventure deep into the Amazon River basin, up peaks in the Andes and into the temples of India to discover her authentic and powerful feminine nature. A riveting everywoman tale and a genuine 21st heroine's journey!
The effects of living in a cultural monoculture where only masculine values of aggressive striving, doing and having are lauded and taught have spilled over into Western spiritual practices, showing up as âmanifestation mania,â better known as Spiritual Materialism. Join journalist (and former editor with the film What the Bleep Do We Know!?) Cate Montana in a fascinating exploration of the hidden feminineâthe force that will change the world and the face of modern spirituality. Cate is a former editor for ABC, NBC, ESPN and CNN, and author of Unearthing Venus: My Search for the Woman Within.
So if guys are raised to be guys and gals are raised to think, act, work and make love like guys, what does that mean as far as society is concerned? Business? Politics? âIt means forget glass ceilings,â says former ABC and CNN editor and journalist Cate Montana. âIt means weâre operating in a one-gender monoculture dedicated to power and profit and it doesnât matter which sex you are, thereâs only one set of rules, one set of values and one way to be. And if thatâs female liberation Iâll eat my hat.â A thoroughly liberated woman, Cate is the author of Unearthing Venus: My Search for the Woman Within. Join her on in the conversation about the marginalization of feminine values and its impact on happiness, sexuality, and health in relationship with self, others and the world.
