In Annies’s tiny Midwest town, the very respected convenience store manager is married to another man.  Here farmers and town folk talk to them like anyone else at the “Cross Roads Café”. At the mini library, up the old stairs of the town hall, {kitty corner of City Counsel office}, there is “Reading Circle Book Club” day, followed by “Psychic Reading Circle” day. Within these delightfully haunted old brick walls a spirit that probably looks much like Aunt Bee, sighs, opens the door, sometimes walks between books probably wondering why kids don’t show up and research Encyclopedia Britannica’s like the old days. Sixty miles North is Spencer Iowa Library where famous library cat, Dewey Decimal, lived and died.  It’s all the charm of Northwest Gothic Iowa where if you work hard, keep a nice yard, and say “Hi”, you’re a good person.
